For those who don't know, a Gite is a self-contained holiday cottage. No you don't share and yes it is self catering, and as a base for a family cycling holiday it is generally a much better choice than a hotel-based holiday (though camping is just as much fun). The house we have bought for this purpose is set in heart of the little French village of Gouarec. It's large, and will sleep up to 8, more to the point the large kitchen, refectory table and living room mean that 8 can actually live there...
The village of Gouarec has all you will need for a week, bakers, supermarkets and of course it is right on the crossroads of two famous cyclepaths, the old canal towpath of the Nantes-Brest canal and the Newly created cyclepath following the old railway line. This means that safe, easy cycling is right on your doorstep. The supplied routes will also take you all around the tiny country lanes in the area to see the real unspoilt heart of Brittany in France.
